Change Your Habits, Change Your Life by Ashdin Doctor

Change Your Habits, Change Your Life by Ashdin Doctor

First things first, self-help books are a big hit in our bookworm family. We not only read, but discuss the books, analyse the thoughts in the book, follow them and tally the results. But most of such books are written by foreign authors in their context.

So, when I laid hands on the Change Your Habits, Change Your Life and started reading the introduction, it hit me hard. Suddenly I can resonate with the author, I can understand his situation that turned his life upside down, his struggles and his journey. It was a surreal feeling and as I went further, the suggestions seemed coming from someone I know.

Things that I liked

The insights shared in the book are easily doable. The author has divided the book into six sections, which are,

  • Understanding habits

  • Getting started with the habits change journey

  • The three golden rule of habit change.

  • Creating successful systems

  • Sustaining habits

  • There’s more to habit

Each section is then divided into concise chapters which are easy to follow. The chapters have personal anecdotes that help to relate to the concepts he is talking about.

The author does not try to be a preacher. The way he writes is like talking to a friend. He encourages like a friend and motivates like a guide. In my honest opinion, this has set the book aprt from other self-help books available in the market.

The book is fun to read. The activities that are given in each chapter also gives the book a practical approach.

Key things that I learned from the book

  • Each habit forms a chain of habits and that’s a train of habits.

  • To break free from a bad habit, we need to derail the habit train.

  • Small changes lead to big impact.

  • It is possible to come out of the comfort zone. You just need to stretch it thin.

  • Your intention is everything.

  • Good habits are results of well developed and well maintained systems.

  • To create a good habit, make it stupidly simple, extra easy and never miss two days in a row.

  • Be compassionate to yourself.

What have I wanted more?

I have nothing negative to report here. Just needed a longer book. The writing was so good that I wanted to read more and more.

Will I look forward to more books by the author?

Absolutely yes! I loved his style of writing and am looking forward to other books by him.
