An Introduction to SEO

What is SEO or Search Engine Optimisation?

SEO is about getting your website found in search results by the target audience. In this introduction to SEO, we will be discussing the importance of improving the search engine optimisation of any blog.

Before diving into what SEO is, let us discuss WHY SEO.

Millions of people search for something on search engines like Google every second. People search for information to meet a query, solve a problem, accomplish a challenge or task and mitigate their curiosity. In short, a person can search for information on NASA, check a recipe, book a flight ticket, or even search for the latest celebrity gossip.

Every single entity that is online needs SEO. 100% of online users rely on search engines to search content. The word “content” does not necessarily mean blog posts or written content. It can be news, video, images and audio as the requirements of the end products’ nature have changed dramatically. Our blogs need to be optimised for text/video/voice search engines so that the people who are looking for the content we have on our site can reach it.

SEO helps search engines choose the content suitable for a particular person based on his requirements.

SEO is not rocket science. It is, in fact, easier than you think. It starts with understanding what people are searching.

According to Chitika, 91.5% of the total average traffic share is generated by the sites which are found on the first page of any search results. As Google, the number 1 search engine also shows news and video for the search results, the traffic is shared with news portals and YouTube videos.

So, as a blogger, we need to focus on some basic strategies to understand what people are searching for. Present-day search results focus on two things.

Understanding what people are looking for and

Content

In fact, Google has always emphasised quality content which is in-depth, genuine and solves a particular query. According to Backlinko, the average content length of a Google first page result is 1890 words.

All over the world, search engine traffic is the primary traffic channel for numerous blogs beating social media manifold. Appearing on the first page of Google search results gives any site authority, visibility and lots of traffic. The good thing about SEO traffic is that it is constant.
